Description

Just to the right of the arete (Beam Me Up Scottie), crouch-start on some big edges and head up and slightly right. Climb past a couple sets of thin pockets and make a toss for the lip. Unlocking the sequence is the crux.

An area classic and a must-do for the grade.

Location

West face of the 'Solarium Boulder', left of center, just right of the left arete.

Fantastic route that will reward good route reading. Committing move to throw to the top for shorter climbers. Apr 1, 2017

Having tried it in the sun and not getting anywhere close to the top, can confirm - shaded it is 10x easier. Still a bit tricky, given the plethora of holds and even knowing the beta.. However, I am also 5'9, so maybe that played a factor. Feb 26, 2017

Wouldn't recommend doing it in the Sun! Feels so terrible and will eat your hands! Mar 6, 2016

I was a huge Solarium hater until I figured out the beta. Choose your holds wisely!

feels dead on v4 to me... I reckon it's harder than a bunch of other v4's in the canyon and I'm 6'3. Jan 5, 2015

I'm pretty sure the jug at the top broke off, making this a v4 Oct 20, 2014

Not really height dependent (I'm quite not tall). Just requires technique and footwork for the one move.

The true grade (V3) is for the problem done while NOT IN THE SUN. Try it... you'll be amazed by how much easier it feels. Aug 11, 2013

Getting pretty polished, it hurts the quality. Chalk, scrub, blow, repeat. Feb 21, 2013

The consensus when I was there was that this was a v4 for those under 6 ft., also the new book gives it V4. Jan 3, 2012

A hold has recently broken (the 2nd large side pull) which makes this more sustained, but doesn't change the grade. Dec 24, 2008

Steeper than it looks. The crux move up to the lip will feel hard for the grade for those shorter in stature. Dec 29, 2007
