Make a Way

5.10a/b, Sport, 80 ft,  Avg: 2.5 from 99 votes
FA: Jack Marshall
California > High Desert > New Jack City > Box Canyon East > Boy Scout Wall

Description

Getting off the deck is probably the crux of this route and requires technical climbing to gain elevation beyond the first bolt. The route eases after the 3rd bolt and provides enjoyable climbing to summit. Ledge for clipping chain anchors.

Location

Located directly left of a large dirty chimney.

Protection

7 bolts with chain anchors. Note: chain anchors share with two other routes directly to the left.

[Hide Comment] This climb in the Southern California Guide to Sport Climbing is listed as Midway. The pictures for this climb may be wrong, according to the guide book. I would agree with the guide book, and say this climb goes at 5.10c/d, with these moves being at the bottom at the first and second bolts, if you don't use the chimney to stem off of. The moves are much more sustained and core engaging than the climb listed as Midway at this site.

The climb called "make a way" in the guide book is the climb listed as "midway" at mountainproject.com. Climbed both, and this climb is def harder... Aug 22, 2011

[Hide Comment] Definitely take caution clipping the second bolt. Not a 10a/b move to get that clip. Maybe a crucial hold was broken but definitely wasn't super confident clipping the second bolt. A fall from there wouldn't be pretty. Jan 29, 2019
