Access Issue: Working Timberland Details
April 19, 2017: Weekday access to the Gold Bar boulders has now reopened following a temporary closure to ensure public safety during harvest activities associated with the Dyno timber sale. In partnership with Access Fund and Washington Climbers Coalition, DNR preserved access to much of the road network hikers and climbers use to access the Gold Bar boulders. Tall warm-up on the eastern face of obelisk boulder. Start on the ground and work up the face/arete system using all or none of the jugs/cracks depending on how bold you are feeling. Mantle up over the ledge. At anytime there is an easy out to the right if you get nervous. This route is a great intro to high bouldering.
From the upper west parking area walk east about 20 meters and then straight uphill into the woods for about 3 minutes to the large obelisk boulder.
Pad the landing. Several surrounding trees and an uneven landing zone.
