Typical Monastery 5.7, although not as sustained as some. The crux is basically a couple of moves in the middle of the climb. Aug 23, 2005

Altered Boy is a straight forward 5.7. It will be a nice warm-up climb for the other routes on the Chapel. It would also be a good route for a new sport leader. Aug 29, 2005

I see comments like "typical Monestary 5.7". Why is this area so underrated compared to everywhere else? This route was nothing like any other 7 I'd been on. Honestly, if I didn't know any better, I'd call it a 5.10b. I had two newer climbers with me who couldn't do much in the Monestary aside from CCD (5.1), who typically climb 5.7 - 5.8. Oct 2, 2015

If it's your first time at The Monastery, the grades might feel stiff. You just have to learn that your rubber will stick to this gritty rock and the pebble pinching is just for balance. I second the "typical Monastery 5.7" description. Sep 9, 2016
