Apple Jam is like Devil's Tower; it is a good jamming crack, & each bolt is easy to clip.... Between each bolt is like safely bouldering a new problem. Just about each clip is at a jamming rest.

This climb shares the first bolt of The Apple Bites Back. Using a single locker on the first is safe. Clipping the bolts is easy, but... each tricky location is above each bolt. So, the crack takes good pro & is not over bolted.

If you are not a bolted crack climber, bring pro to a #2 1/2 Friend (small hexes & large soppers are good).

There is a sport bolted crack to the right of "The Apple Bites Back".... I believe the climb described here was retrobolted. Apr 30, 2013

I didn't find very many opportunities to throw jams in there, didn't see how this felt like columnar basalt, and felt like the description wasn't apt. Partner and I though we were on the wrong climb the entire time, but MP and the guidebook insisted on telling us this was "like Devil's Tower," which we didn't find to be true. Maybe we were off route, but I doubt. Apr 30, 2018
