The two areas Jefferson County Open Space intends to close in Clear Creek Canyon, shown on the attached maps, encompass the active eagle nests. If the Clear Creek eagles continue to nest in the active nests, these areas will remain closed from February 1 through July 31. If the eagles choose different nesting sites, the closures will be adjusted accordingly to protect those eagles during their breeding season.
Currently, rock climbing areas that fall inside of the seasonal raptor closures include:
Blonde Formation Bumbling Stock Evil Area Ghost Crag Highlander Skinny Legs Stumbling Block Tetanus Garden Fault Caves
Description
Just right of Buy Gold is a line of bolts leading to a steep headwall on the left side of a blunt arete. This is Buy Low, Sell High. Climb the steep slab up a short left-facing corner past several bolts. Reach a ledge below a steep headwall. Makes several long reaches climbing close to the arete. Power past the crux reaching a ledge and the anchors.
[Hide Photo] Was matched on this when it blew, pretty spooky.
[Hide Photo] Climbing around vegetation on the adventure part of Buy Low, Sell High. Note, you can finish on Buy Gold if you bring an additional draw or two.
[Hide Comment] BLSH is another fine line that climbs up good stone on this improbable looking crag. I thought that the run out at the next to last clip was a bit spooky. It appeared to us that moving right to the arete and then back left to the face was the proper way to handle the finish (?).

[Hide Comment] This deserves a better rating, fairly moderate at the bottom more like 5.10b, but gets very spicy on the upper face, with a strong lay back to a sharp ledge throw, for the crux. Going right to the arete after the crux is key as Richard states.

[Hide Comment] This climb is definitely harder than Buy Gold (rated .12a but more like .11c). The grades of these two climbs could be switched. I think this is the better climb of the two as well. Good climbing the whole way.

[Hide Comment] This is a great climb. I think it has cleaned up since the previous comments. I didn't have to move to the arete--used some small crimps and technical footwork on the upper headwall. I'm guessing a bolt was added up there too--it's pretty tightly bolted through the crux.

[Hide Comment] Yes, Martha, I added a bolt to the crux in 2006 after getting permission from Vaino Kodas (the first ascentionist). The crux seemed dangerously runout with a potentially bad swinging fall that could land someone into lower angle terrain.
