Temporary Trail and Raptor Closures Details

This boulder is located South of Sentinel Pass. As you go down the trail, you will be turning a large rock. After some 20 feet, the rock's East face will become visible as a large, multitiered, overhanging prow of layered rock. To its left, a small dirty slab leads up to a notch with a large pine tree.

The route climbs up the slab to the tree (hiking territory on the other side of the tree). From there, tackle a short South-facing wall (crux), and move back onto the East face for a clean easy slab scramble to the top....

Descent - scramble down West and North some 20 easy feet to the Pass.

Standard rack.

I attempted to take on the West Sentinel "direct", up the overlapping flakes, facing the trail, but the flakes were loose and scary.

I also climbed the small flatiron just left of W. Sentinel, I'll call it "South Sentinel" (left of the tree in the photo), a 50' route; a short, vertical south face to east slab route, similar to W.Sentinel. Not sure if it has a name. Nov 27, 2015
