Description

The second pitch of Western Grebe can be modified with a hard mantel thrown in. It is a nice move and definitely committing. Instead of traversing all the way left to avoid the roof. About 15 feet before the main route is a solitary bolt a-top a mini-flake. Do it, just do it!!

[Hide Comment] This is a must do Var. if your going to go up the second pitch. One word: Awesome!

I've done it a few times now and I'd say it's at least in the mid 5.10ish range. May 4, 2006

[Hide Comment] That mantle is way hard... Feels really insecure, and you'd deck if you were to blow the move standing up. Can't imagine doing it without the bolt. The rest of the route is really good. Oct 23, 2007

[Hide Comment] 5.11 in what book??

Though I see how this could be harder for taller folks.. Though I'm 6'. After getting on it once again (yes I like this mantle). Still can't say that it feels like 5.11. Hard 10...Sure.

[Hide Comment] I always thought that 5.9+ was harder than 5.10, especially in LCC. Isn't that how the ratings are supposed to work? Oct 26, 2007
