Prepositional Phrase

FA: Turville
Utah > Wasatch Range > Little Cottonwo… > Green Adjective Gully
Access Issue: Gate Buttress Area Recreational Lease: Climbs on Church Buttress above vault remain closed Details

Description

Just right of Green Adjective the climb, is a crack that turns a corner right, at the end of this traverse is a bolt. This climbs the crack system, to the bolt and then on upward. The crux is between bolt 1 and bolt 2, and is an exciting lead move. Well worth the hike up here, Prepositional Phrase gets easier in the upper reaches, but maintains a nice space between bolts too keep it fun.

Protection

7 draws for the route, 2 for the chains, and maybe 1 medium to small cam to protect the initial crack/ramp.

The route pictured here is "Dangling Participle", .11a, which shares the start with Prepositional Phrase; however, that climb heads up and left at the second bolt rather than skirting the drop off seen in the photo. This shot was taken during the FA and that is Jay Wilson (RIP) following. Jay died down in Indian Creek when the one bolt rap anchor he was using failed. Jay was a terrific guy, ad he left behind a wonderful son, Eli, who carried on with the family tradition of seeking wild places.

[Hide Comment] You get a nice view of the start of Meat Puppets from the anchors. Anyone know what the line directly above the anchors finally went at? Looks burly. Mar 10, 2006

[Hide Comment] Lots of gardening help uncover a nice thin crack hidden underneath the vegetation. A micro and maybe a BD #1 can be used to get to the first bolt safely. The crux follows, featuring stupid-hard slabbing. Bring your A-game or watch your shins when you fall past the corner. More exciting moves await until you clip the 3rd bolt, after which the climbing eases a bit. The upper slab is beautiful with thin edges peppered left and right and nicely spaced bolts. 120' of quality climbing.

Ten, I think the green dihedral is still a project. Oct 26, 2009

[Hide Comment] A 70m single rope rap barely gets you down, if you aim up the gully and land on a boulder. I think it would take an 80m to lower and top rope this from the ground. Apr 24, 2019
