Face The Fax

5.7+, Trad, TR, 70 ft (21 m),  Avg: 2.1 from 42 votes
FA: Scott Unice, Julie Gustin 1990
Utah > Wasatch Range > Central Wasatch > Big Cottonwood… > Creekside Crag

Description

The right-most line with bolts on the south face. Another decent climb with good angles and steady climbing. At the top it angles left to the anchors.

Protection

2 bolts and chains atop for the anchor, 2 bolts protect the upper section. Small to medium gear (#.5 and smaller C4s,  #1 to #0 Master Cams) or smaller nuts. Protection is solid and the (slightly) runout sections are mellow.

[Hide Comment] Great climb, it just need more TLC. We cleaned it off as much as we could but this route needs more trafic to stay clean. Jun 28, 2012

[Hide Comment] Once again I can not believe someone added bolts to this climb. It was really fun just the way it was. Jul 10, 2014
[Hide Comment] A #3 C4 or equivalent (I used a Trango Flex Cam #8) may be helpful prior to clipping the first bolt, then well bolted from there. I disagree with SMH Climber's thoughts on the bolting of this route. At least if you stick close to the bolt line, there aren't many great gear placements. If you go further to the right there seem to be more possibilities, but that in my opinion is a different route and appears to have more jugs--maybe 5.6 or 5.7 (this route would be between "Face the Fax" and "Intern's Burn"). As it is, I think the bolts are necessary to avoid a run-out, R rating. Nice climb for the grade. Sep 30, 2020
[Hide Comment] Route has been retrobolted. Now 2 anchors near the top + medium to small gear. Jun 26, 2021
[Hide Comment] Also 2 bolts protect the upper section. Jul 2, 2021
[Hide Comment] I'd love to jump into the fray concerning inclusive climbing versus puritanical machismo, but... way up on the highest anchors above this climb, I left two draws today, because I got destroyed by a tornado of bees. If anyone is wandering up there to chop or drill or just climb for the fun of it, whilst trying not to disturb our little friends, I'll buy a beer for the rescue! Jul 27, 2021

[Hide Comment] The additional bolts that many people started to use have been removed. In my opinion, this wall was much better served as a sport wall. The trad is okay but not that great. Jul 30, 2021
