Description

We only climbed here because it was a goal of my partner and mine to do every section in the Slater book. It was a major disappointment. Slabby routes that are a bit tremulous, but not too exciting. Yeah, yeah, slab isn't exciting when it's got a low rating, but trust me, not exciting.

Protection

4 bolts plus two anchor bolts on top

[ed. note: 7/04 - two 5/16” buttonheads replaced with two 1/2” SS Rawl bolts. Bolts went back in original holes.]

It was all good fun easy climbing. Joe is a great guy. We were all over that thing. Go climb it and keep it clean. Dec 1, 2013

I spoke with Joe Potter about this climb several years ago. He says he did not solo the climb. He did however, place the first and/or second bolt by hand. Jun 11, 2010

I love slab climbing, so I enjoyed the Garden Wall slab climbs. The moves to reach the second bolt above the roof felt like 5.8. The moves over the left side of the roof felt like 5.7. Jun 1, 2010

I definitely wouldn't say this is a "bomb". I'd give it a least 1 star. OK, maybe 1/2 a star. Garden Wall is a great place to take beginners & has at least one good lead and a couple of interesting top ropes. It's also a good place to go to get way up high w/out doing any serious climbing. I wouldn't say this is a spot you'd visit more than a few times, but you should at least check it out. Besides, if everyone stops climbing here, the lichen will grow back then it really will suck!
