Access Issue: Climbing Regulations/Seasonal Raptor Closures
Details
The Joshua Tree National Park Superintendent's Compendium states that:
1. Vegetation is not allowed to be used as an anchor.
2. Only neutral or rock colored bolt hangers are allowed.
For a complete list of climbing rules and closures visit:

Description
This face climb lies on the left margin of the west face of Grotto Rock. Climb face and a large loose flake to the first bolt. Above, a single hard move on solid patina leads to easier climbing on buckets past 2 more bolts to the top. A 2 bolt anchor is located about 6 feet back from the edge.
Despite the intial loose holds, it is worth doing. Descend by downclimbing the center of the upper east face to a ledge; then head right (south) and down a corner/flare to the right end of the west face.
Protection
3 bolts, 2 bolt anchor/rap
[Hide Photo] Wait Until Dark climbs the steep patina plates on the left edge of the formation.
