Description

This route lies on the southern part of the West Tiers, about 90 yards right of Blood and Cuts (5.10a). It ascends a very prominent left diagonalling dike (3 bolts), then up into a crack. It is easily visible from the road. One of the better routes in the vicinity and well worth doing.

Protection

3 bolts, small to medium cams.

[Hide Comment] A fun climb, but short and not overly remarkable.

The route is named for a, now defunct, gym in nearby Yucca Valley run by Lee, a fit older gentleman not unlike Jack Lalanne. Dec 11, 2003

[Hide Comment] Each of the 3 bolts have hangers which consist of 2 links of chain of unknown strength. Very uninspiring protection but very fun route otherwise. Any chance of the ASCA ever replacing these hangers ?

The fixed pin is gone. Jan 25, 2006

[Hide Comment] The route to the right is called: Henrietta's Day Spa 5.11c *** A very worthwhile route. Apr 9, 2009
[Hide Comment] These's a block to the right of the first bolt that may be loose, it seemed to wiggle a little. Avoid if possible and don't hang off it before clipping the first bolt.
Really fun route. Mar 25, 2019

[Hide Comment] We visited Lee a whole bunch back when were regulars at "the Monument". He always greeted us 'Hey the boys are back ! C'mon sit down for a spel!" Lee was always interested in our adventures. Thing was Lee was still ripped even in his ripe old age !.
One day waitin for my buddies to shower . I sat with Lee at his desk up front. the walls around him were plastered with posters and photos of him with the likes of Arnold, Lou F, Franco Columbo etc etc This day he was jawing with a couple of his old body building buddies. They were telling stories bout back in the day times training and doing muscle shows with fellow gym guys who all later became the big stars of body building. Lee started in about when he walked into a tavern and saw an old body building friend tending bar. Lee said he hadnt seen in him years. As he turned around and saw Lee, he said ' Whoa you look like 500 miles of bad road !" as Lee recalled : "I took that as an insult and told him a few things Then he threw a punch at me which I stopped with a quick catch in my palm clamped tight around his fist and twisted him down crumpled to the floor at my feet Poor guy was that outta shape !..500 miles of bad road ?..I showed him !" I nearly fell off my chair laughing as Lee pulled me back onto the chair with a one handed vise grip. The thing that got me laughing was he really did look like 500 miles of bad road ! We always made sure to stop in say hello He was a local legend and straight shooter not too mention the nicest person you'd ever meet. Sad to hear he passed away a few years ago. May 30, 2019
