Very near the end of pitch one, the flake temporarily merges into the wall leaving a fairly large gap that must be crossed. Angela and I both had the same thoughts when we encountered this gap: "Herb and Jan, you're fricken' crazy!!!" I thought this to be the highlight of pitch one!

Taking the classic route

Will Becker heading up the first pitch of the Conn Diagonal. The route looks much more inviting from the base than it does from across the way on Old People's Dome!
