About to get pummeled by spindrift on the first pitch of Hourglass Couloir on 4/8/06. There was no ice on the route this early in spring, but we had a blast anyway.
This was about 6 pitches although I marked up 9 belays. We moved 1 belay into a better position while we waited for the 2 guys ahead of us. Then towards the top, I wanted to put the rope away but 20' later had to get it back out again.<br> <br> P1: awkward ice chimney with running water. Then 1 or 2 rock steps. <br> P2: steep snow, some rock. <br> P3: narrow ice chute. Bulletproof ice - Should've sharpened picks and pons. The last 10-15' was close to 90°.<br> P4: rock and snow. <br> P5: mostly snow, 1 rock step. <br> P6: sketchiest of the day. Rock step with a tiny amount of ice, running water.
