Start of climbers trail. After the steep part of the trail and where it flattens out, you get a good view of the cliff. An older trail will veer left while the main trail goes right. This is the climbers trail that goes to the base of the AMC Route cliff, marked with red and/or yellow marks.

There are several bald spots when you top out on the initial ridge on the Loop Trail. The climber's trail (the old chimney trail) leaves left from the second bald spot. If you go left at the first bald spot, along an obvious spine of rock that looks like it's going in the right direction, you will be lost in the scrub and they will never find your body. Keep going another 150 - 200 feet along the Loop Trail and then look for the old trail branching left. If, after about 150 feet, you find yourself crossing a small swampy area, you're on the right trail. Otherwise, bring food for like a month, and a flare gun. Aug 8, 2017
