safe?
McLovin
I don't really mess with the bowlines, been around several that have had issues and I prefer to avoid them all together.

-partners bowline knot was poorly dressed(I think) and he realized it on the crux of a 5.11 4 pitches up, to this day he now uses the 8.

-local aerial arts dance studio had a lyra(steel hulla hoop) tied up with a bowline for months, then one day it fell as someone pulled up onto it because the knot came untied.

I realize the rest of you are going to continue to use the bowline and thats fine im not trying to convince you otherwise, I am not going to however.

Wasting gear is not an issue,
Can you point out a safety issue with my anchor other than poor tree choice?

My understanding is that the wraps around the tree make it as good as the full strength rope. Jul 6, 2016

Technically a tensionless hitch around the tree is much stronger than any knot you can tie. So if the tree is big and sturdy enough I myself wouldn't hesitate doing it. Jul 6, 2016
How do you get your carabiners and rope back after the climb? ;-) Jul 6, 2016
