Interesting, I've always started ~20ft to the right in the gully proper. That looks fun though. Aug 15, 2016
Trevor, for all I know that could be the real start - I followed a different party up this beginning and it was pretty straightforward. If the crumbly chimney thing is the correct start this could make a cleaner alternative. Aug 16, 2016

If you take the gully pictured above, climbing to the right of the block in the photo is easier and matches the 5.5 expectation given on Dowdle’s topo. Climbing the left side is noticeably more difficult. There’s also a gully 50 feet to the right that goes at 5.easy. I don’t know for sure which gully Dowdle’s topo refers to. The gully pictured is located at the end of the climber’s trail along the base of the Perch. Both will take you to the steeple shaped block at the end of pitch 1. Aug 28, 2018
