We took one of the first left turns you can off the main dirt road, you'll see a hill that's got a dirt path leading to the top. Going down this hill is very steep, and I recommend a badass off-road vehicle with some good tires and torque to get back up it. Even with the Bronco we had to get a running start. Once you get down the hill, there are a few really awesome secluded campsites. Just follow the (pretty rough and rocky) dirt path that sticks closest to Prophesy, and you'll find a good spot to park in red sand. Feb 23, 2016
It's been a while since I was there (like a decade) but i thought there was an established parking area and blazing new trails into the desert was kind of forbidden. Most people camp by the upper sandcove or lower sandcove reservoirs nearby. I can't imagine "getting a run at it" with your burly 4wd vehicle left no trace on the way out. Feb 24, 2016

Dear Concerned Humans,

We weren't blazing new trails, and only stuck to off road dirt paths that were already established. We pulled off in an area where it looked open and safe enough to park without harming any plants or other shrubbery (as you can see in the above image). Yes, there is an "established parking lot," but the trails we took and campsite we used in a different area were just as established as the parking lot and surrounding campsites, the only catch is you need an off road vehicle to experience them. If you don't believe me, I'd be more than happy to get another trip going to show all ye naysayers exactly where we drove and camped.

Getting a running start up a dirt road is not unheard of Mr. bus driver, if you've ever experienced off road trails. This happened to be a very steep one. We also packed out more trash than we brought in, for those concerned about LNT. And Tofu Brain, you most definitely are violating Guideline #1 and living up to your name.

Thanks for jumping to all sorts of conclusions everyone.

Sincerely,

Nature Slayer :P Feb 24, 2016
