Normal Route (beta) - Púlpito del Diablo
The route follows the center crack.
Hey there, FYI I just climbed El Pulpito in late October and the face you are looking at is not, IMO, the normal route, nor will it go at 5.8. The normal route is in the middle of the backside. These crack systems you are looking at are frikkin beautiful, but the top is VERY steep. I did a whole tour of the summit and looked down this route and the final third of the face is probably more like 5.11. working in your favour though, the rock has AMAZING fricton and many sharp, grippy edges. FYI, there is no obvious belay or rap station at the top of this beautiful face. The rap station is a network of bolts backing up slings and old tat wrapped around a block beside the normal route. INSPECT WITH CARE! Also, the rock is so sharp that any sawing motion back and forth on rappel WILL cut your rope. I damaged my brand new alpine rope on the first rappel :(

We're hoping to do this soon. Does the route follow the center crack all the way to the top, even where it tapers out, and stays 5.8? Or does it traverse? Thanks! Dec 24, 2015
