Schoolroom 5.6 II on the Gate Buttress in Little Cottonwood Canyon

The best photo I could get of the rappels. Open in new tab for full quality

Here is the SchoolRoom location in relation to everything else in LCC. This picture was taken from the super slab area.

The view atop pitch 5

View of the chimney / offwidth / whatever you wanna call it

Karson cruising under the roof...with two backpacks!

School Room traverse - 4th pitch (after heinous chimney)

If you want to walk off, this is the tree and blocky terrain than plants you near the base of 'after the fall'.

Last pitch

Traverse on pitch four above the offwidth.

Gear beta for pitch 2 anchor. Mostly finger size pieces. I used .5 C4, #2 Metolius, and #6 Metolius.

Mr. Goat playing on the slabs just below Schoolroom.

Party on pitch 3

Brian looking up at the 5th pitch.

Top of hand crack (looking down) from a great belay to end "first" pitch. Beware of overcamming your #3s (somebody lost one in the top of the crack and my wife didn't want to dig for it) and extend your placements to avoid drag.

Pro on traverse (E->W): #6 WC Offset nut set in small left facing crack, single sling on rock spur, ULMC #3 & WC 0.5.

Just above the chimney (seen on the right partially hidden by the bush) on the 4th pitch as I begin the traverse under the roof.

That's one way to do it...

Near the top of the 3rd pitch of Schoolroom. Nice clean finger crack!

Grace on P2. #3 Protects this pitch well

Kev traversing on pitch 4

This chimney was the trickiest part of the climb

Looking down the top of the second pitch. I think this is the best pitch on the route especially if you link it with the schoolroom direct start.

Tim Edgar finishing the traverse on pitch 4 of Schoolroom (5.6 II) on the Gate Buttress, Little Cottonwood Canyon.

As my partner would say, we are airplane high.
