Nolan, I understand your concerns.

Assuredly, no one ever went over there even when it was open-and surely won't go there now, as the schwack down to this fun TR was horrendous. Plus, it's CLOSED!

Per KJS: this is on private property. Please stop climbing here. Please stop posting the climb. "Everything to the right of the East Animas designated climbing trail is private property. You can see the boundaries on the La Plata County GIS site." This information is a public crowdsourcing effort between the Access Fund and Mountain Project. You should confirm closures, restrictions, and/or related dates. Keeping climbing areas open and conserving the climbing environment."

After I unsuccessfully lobbied Kelly to allow continued access to the routes with more than a few fone calls, I did get her to finally give me the OK to go up there over a weekend to remove the hardware. So all the hangers, chains, and tat are gone...because great heron roosts+silence+real estate=closure. Hard work to get the gear, but I don't want issues w/ access to dear old E.A. either.

So yes, it is a photograph of an off-limits, obscure-to-begin-with cliff-let, indeed. Want to see more? Look at the Solarium section posted by E. Dixon. Yes, nice closed routes posted on the East Animas MP webpage. See all the other temptations posted by me and others...?

I'm fine if Ben, Leo, whomever, deletes the whole Solarium shee-bang.... In fact, initially, I went to delete the photo without a fuss, but with comments, it's not allowed. So I figured I'd respond instead.

Rest easy. There are far too many better-quality climbs within bounds to enjoy at E.A. for access issues to arise.

However, as I said earlier, erase the Solarium and all the accompanying posts, photos, etc. from history, if that's what's best....

Oh, what is "real" climbing?

I worked Colorado Outward Bound XT 30-day courses for 14 summers in the Needles and Grenadiers and do indeed still have more new routes to do up in the glorious San Juans.

Thank you for posting, and I have climbed at the Solarium (about 3/4 years ago), a touch on the sandy side for my taste. It definitely is a bummer that it's closed, because it was a great way to access the top of East A. without freesoloing. Jun 25, 2015

Pretty lame that you removed the hardware. Areas like this should remain obscure and equipped for those who choose to trespass. What's next, removing all the bolts on the Sandman Wall and I need a shower? Technically those are private too...(?) Oct 18, 2015
