first pitch of the bastille. and the very first time I ever climbed in Colorado. no guidebook, no beta, just some bits from a friend who's a big time sport climber that told me it was 8+++, two pitches with bolted anchors, and then a walk-off to what he thought was the east. well, at least I was thinking 8+++ in my head all the while leading pitch after pitch, building four and five piece anchor after anchor, swearing I had done gone awff route whilst hauling him up, only to find that I was spot on and had linked some bits. this route and the experience of that climbing day made me fall in love with eldo and subsequently Colorado climbing altogether. one of my best days ever.
