The best strategy is to deflect your belayer's attention by yelling something. "Hey, is that a falcon," has worked for me often. Then you quickly yank on the gear to get past the hard bit. A follow-up, "Hey, slack! Can't you see I'm moving here" completes the ruse. Sep 25, 2017
