Peter Hayes passing the crux on P1, '87.
Quick Draws still not invented, so he's using knotted webbing with ovals. Those new Fires were trick, and the swami belt habit was just too hard to break, even with a harness. Once you are at the finger rail heading right, you are out of the first crux. Agree that when the second unclips the 2nd bolt, a long swing could result...best not to fall then, right? On this day, Mike Guardino & Larry Zulim followed. Be prepared for a significant runout on P3. A looped chicken head helps, and the threat of busted ankles low on P2 is real, so make sure you are solid for the grade if you want to lead this historic route. Aug 12, 2014
