Correction, that's not even a munter hitch, the rope is just wrapped around the carabiner with one round turn. It's hard to imagine any scenario where this setup would be appropriate.

Perhaps lowering a very lightweight pack? even then, a failure would risk burning your hand or dropping the pack on someone, so a better anchor and a locker or two would still be called for.. Apr 9, 2015

not sure exactly what is going on here, but everything about this photo looks extremely sketchy..

My best guess is that he's belaying with a munter hitch on a non-locking carabiner, on a line that is redirected through two non-locking carabiners, which are neither opposite or opposed or lined up correctly, since there isn't even a master point. I'm not sure what's going on with that anchora, but there are very wide angles, no master point, and quite possibly no redundancy and/or potential for great extension and shock loading.. Apr 9, 2015
