It was a cold day in the fall of 2003 when two intrepid explorers (Sue not pictured) were coerced to climb Olive Oil burdened with crash pads. The destination being a boulder problem in the descent gully which Hans bravely ascended.

Pitch 3

START of the climb on a typical Sunday about 10:15am - One group STARTs, while another party of two wait, and a 3rd party of 3 relax. There's a party of 3 on the route already.

This is the exact GPS location of the base of the start of olive oil.

Lower climber nears crux of P2, upper climber starts off on P4 ("P3" if P2+P3 are combined) one climber at belay

P2 and P3 combined - note long run-out above OH mid-way on pitch

Molly starts off on P1; the "cave-ish" start is a few feet lower and to climber's right

An intermediate belay in the middle of P2 - not a lot of room - most climbers run out to the big sandy ledge "like a beach" 80 ft higher up. (Thanks Russell !)

This boulder on the left is a great spot to stash your backpacks as the descent trail meets back up with the ascent trail about here. The route can be seen in the background on the right.

On hike back- this is the correct Cut-off path directly to stream and cars. Staying on the left trail you'll swing around nearly to the base of the Mescalito.
