This is a scan of a postcard showing the Normal Route (solid red line)and the french Route (broken red line). The red triangle is the refugio. The normal route appears deceptively flat in this image!<br>
At the top of Chacaltaya with beautiful Huayna Potosi as a backdrop.
This picture offers a good view of the approach to the refugio. You can pick up the trail on the center right of the photo. It then moves to the left along the ridge that cuts the picture almost in half. At the termination of this ridge, the trail climbs steeply up to the taller of the two knolls in the center of the photo. You just make out the rufugio at the top of the knoll.
