Grandes Jorasses. Old slides from the eighties... sorry.

The Aiguille du Grepon (pointy spire 2nd from left), the Dru (twin-summitted spire at center), and Aiguille Verte (pyramid summit on the right) rising above the Mer de Glace. The classic Bonatti Pillar climbs the left skyline of the Dru.

Yours truly carbo-loading at le patisserie, August 1985. I carried those two 70# packs myself from Amsterdam to Cham and back again over two months, one on my back and one on front.

The spectacular Grand Capucin. A perfect 1500' granite face in the Vallee Blanc. In 1959 Bill Aughton and I climbed the Bonatti route with one very pleasant Bivouac. There are now other climbs on the face ,some are among the hardest free climbs in the Chamonix area.
