The "boulder problem." Crux #1.
Just about to get started. Ben is in amazing spirits despite having to belay my ass on this thing way too many times. All photos taken by Amanda Ramsay (who belayed on the send).
The line takes the beautiful black streak up this gently overhanging wall. It was equipped by Mark Howe a few years ago; he later graciously opened up the project. The beauty of the line and the area are matched by the movement -- it is flawless for the entirety of it's 130' length. After some pretty epic belay sessions (thanks Ben & Amanda), it finally went down: The Paper Crane, 5.13a.<br>
The final redpoint crux is controlling this hold and the stand up, shown in the next frame.
This shot shows the start of the hand traverse.
The inset offers nearly complete recovery before the relentless final sequence.
Crux #2; perhaps the hardest single move on the route.
