IF one actually get's a citation about not displaying an "adventure pass" don't pay the fine. No warrant or registration hold ever materializes from this. The voluntary compliance (in paying the fine) is what they hope for.

Don't buy them. Jul 14, 2011

I just buy the Second Vehical passes for $5. Just borrow a friends year pass or just try and get one of the lost Sport Challet employees to sell you one. Jul 14, 2011

FYI If you park in the Horse Flats campground an Adventure Pass IS NOT VALID. It is valid if you park in the day use area up the road or just outside the entrance gate to the campgrounds. An adventure pass allows you to park in the National Forest but not to camp in it. If you park in a campsite the rangers assume you plan on staying there so they expect you to pay. 12 bucks is totally worth it to climb such an amazing spot.

I always urge anyone to pay the fee. Its only twelve bucks and it gives the climbers a good rep. It bothers me so much to see people come in and abuse this oasis. Pay the fee to park in the campground and pick up your damn beer cans so this place can stay as amazing as it is. Apr 19, 2013
