super cool shot! hey brad brandawie (sp?), you should do some photoshop, add some numbers next to the formations, and people can fill in the info. kind of like that canyonlands area map thing you did. i think it was you? Sep 11, 2009

Thanks for the info folks - one day I'll climb those beauties...

Yeah Chris, I was ferrying an experimental plane from Illinois to Utah at this time, an incredible flight. Made a big detour just to get down and see the 4-corners region (and to avoid the Rockies).

It was a slow plane, and with the westerlies at our 12 o'clock we often looked down a few thousand feet at the I-40 to see RV's passing us in the slow lane. Unforgettable four days of flight. Dec 8, 2009

Most of the way down this page is an annotated photograph:

Past the two mittens and Merricks Butte a big gap through which the valley road goes. Three Sisters on its right and Elephant Butte on its left.

Beyond this you can see Raingod Mesa / Spearhead Mesa, which obscures the Totem Pole Basin beyond

There is the remains of a B52 somewhere on Mitchell Mesa, maybe Wetherill Mesa. Monument Valley Maps Oct 22, 2011
