Hmmm, looks familiar. Is this area upstream from Kessler's corner, in what I think is called the Cherry Creek canyon, first major canyon east of Bear canyon and the highway? If so, this area was "pioneered" back in 1989-1990 by Flaugher, Weaver, Grad and Clinch who did a number of ascents on the wall behind the spire, and worked up two routes to the top of the tower. I climbed there some longish time ago, 5.8 to 5.10 stuff as I recall. The bolts out there are OLD, so check them before depending on them...

There is also, a bit further upstream, lol -- memory is failing me here, it may even be north of OMSF -- a place called "The Buckled Wall," that would-be first ascencionists might want to check out. Also even further north, accessed from the Bear Canyon restroom picnic zone is "High and Wide" -- a large wall at the head waters of Cherry Creek canyon. 150 foot climbs, high quality rock. Flaugher did some initial work out here in the late 80s early 90s before broken ankles made the 50 minute "uphill" trek a bit too panful for regular, developmental hikes. I think I still MAY have some pictures and a few route descriptions for this wall as well, I'll see if I can find them. LOTS of undeveloped climbs still available there, one we top roped is probably in the low 12 bracket, lots others in the 5.8 to 5.10 zone. Jan 28, 2008
