Why is there a bolt? Looks like two good cracks for gear.... Aug 12, 2015
The climber has his hand and foot in the sweet 5.9 hand crack while making that clip, and the next move is the bouldery crux involving a three finger lay back move off a sloping hold to the left. That, and you have to power high off it to send the right hand to the upper crack. The left foot needed to do this throw is overhanging flatness, so it's all about power in those three fingers. What you hit with the right is a sloper, so you have to move quickly, bumping up the crack to more positive holds. Once you are established in the upper crack, it's 5.11 to the anchors: pumpy but way easier than the initial 5.12c fingers. I'll never forget what that crux hold felt like, and neither will you.
