You can prevent this type of damage on canyon routes by using a stone knot with a fiddle stick and a pull cord. With that configuration you do not pull your rope in the traditional scene, rather the fiddle stick is pulled with the pull cord, and the stone knot collapses and the rappel line simply falls to the bottom. Pretty neat trick, not as sketchy as it sounds either. :) Mar 11, 2019
