Those doubles are not doing much for the second at that point.... It's gonna be a swing either way. Once the second rope starts helping (judging by the angle), the climbing eases up, and is pretty much straight up.... Apr 2, 2014

I think the use of double ropes is to prevent the second from falling down as far, as opposed to controlling the swing. It's difficult to climb up from below the crux. Jan 22, 2018
