Porcupine barriers!
We pulled into the lot in '89 and saw that most of the cars were wrapped in chicken wire. 'Hmmm..' sez we, 'there's something we should know.' While we were packing up a big fat porky waddles into the lot. I've had a poor relationship with porkies on the Long Trail and AT, where we developed the sport of porky bashing. Not as bad as it sounds, the quills pad them well, the only way you can actually damage them is to pop them square in the nose. So anyway, I chase it out and up the hill and dropped a rock on it to emphasize our lack of hospitality. The porky does the possum thing, rolled over and slid down the slope. I walk back to the truck, and literally 30 sec. later the porky rolls back up to walk away and a ranger comes off the trail. I'm sure I'm screwed for abusing the wildlife. The ranger walks up to the porky, pulls out his pistol, and pops a cap in him. Nuff said. Apr 4, 2017
