On March 16, 2021 Kate Mylan took the gnarliest pendulum fall I've ever seen (from the mantle just before the final P1 anchor). We swapped leads, she hopped back on and sent. Absolute badass.

Route as recorded in the 1979 Wolff/Dominick Joshua Tree Guide. This was one of my first guidebook purchases when I arrived in the US in the early 80's.

Hard moves up and past 3rd bolt still leaves you a hard move up to downward flake and 4th bolt. Either follow the flake up to large holds and 5th bolt or the route can step on face above the flake and continue up to 5th bolt.

Glad to get to larger holds, Paul looks back at 1st crux. Many more to go!

Ivan at the thin face that leads to a crux move at the diagonal crack that gets you to the second bolt on the right.

Stepping off the belay

A good view of the first of the two bolt anchors. The first and easier traverse gets you to the bolts and then the crux traverse moves can be seen bascially following rope.

Continuous thin moves on steep rock all the way to a good rest at the beginning of the long traverse left to right.

Ivan Rezucha just starting the easy traverse to get to the beginning of the climb. Don't lose concentration here as you are probably 50 feet above the deck reaching the first bolt!

This is a great shot showing the complete first pitch of Figures On A Landscape. Zoom in to see all six bolts which isn't that many considering the length of the pitch!

Although this traverse is quite run out, the climbing is quite easy all the way to the anchors seen to Paul's right. These are not the belay anchors for this climb. The hard and committing crux traverse continues from those anchors to the right another 15' or so.

The right overhanging wall has lots of features allowing for stemming and many no hands stances.
