the imposing 3rd pitch choice
Very near the end of pitch one, the flake temporarily merges into the wall leaving a fairly large gap that must be crossed. Angela and I both had the same thoughts when we encountered this gap: "Herb and Jan, you're fricken' crazy!!!" I thought this to be the highlight of pitch one!

It might be worth noting that the climber in the picture has traversed past the start of the the third-pitch chimney, and is at or near the top pitch of the West Buttress route. Jul 6, 2008
