Mesa Rim Climbing & Fitness
Description
Mesa Rim is the largest climbing gym in Reno. It includes 30+ big walls with top rope and sport lead set up and 30+ boulder problems. All problems rotate/reset after about 30 days. Gym includes many classes, from yoga, to core class to lead certification. They host youth training and tournaments frequently. Small weights area and cardio equipment. Also has hangboard and canvas training area. Solid pro-shop with rope and sport climb gear. Food and drink options, too. Great, helpful staff and multiple membership ranges.
The climbing routes are rotated quite often. Routes are well thought out to be both fun and challenging. Gym is approximately five stories high. Lead routes are 55 feet long. Mesa Rim boast 23,000 feet of climbing!. You must use your own rope if you wish to lead. Required rope length of 35 meters is the minimum for leading. The gym has several cracks systems ranging from 5.8 off fist to 5.12+ off fingers. Mesa RIm only has one auto belay it is for the speed wall route. Speed route is IFSC certified. The gym also has showers as well as a coed sauna. Mesa Rim does offers a Military discount.
As of March of 2020 Mesa ONLY allows ABD belay devices (NO ATC's). You may belay with Gri Gri's and other modern belay devices. Sorry Old Timer no stitch plates or figure eights. Climbers are required to use the figure eight knot for tie in. Belayers must be 14 years of age unless they are on the Mesa Rim youth team. Belayers must use the P.L.U.S. method for belaying.
Mesa Rim requires you to bring your own belay device, or borrow a Jul or GriGri. Mesa Rim offers belay classes, sport classes, and technique classes. All must be belay and sport certified and receive a certification card before belaying.
