Summer 2026 Falcon Closures are posted for Lover's Leap.

Falcons are nesting just to the right of Eagle Buttress.

Please avoid all routes between Rated X and the Hourglass on the Central Wall of Lover's Leap.

  • As of now, Lover's Chimney and Bookmark will remain open; as will all climbs on the Traveler Buttress.

Falcons will protect the nests and have actively dive bombed climbers on Eagle Buttress, so please respect their space and the closures by keeping your distance.

Please note that drones should not be used at the Leap because they disturb falcons.

Through a collaborative monitoring process CRAGS and Lover's Leap Guides has worked with the Forest Service to help make sure that falcons are monitored and that closures respect the actual location and timing of nesting. This helps us limit the extent to which blanket closures affect climbing. Instead of blanket closures, we use behavioral ecology to inform when and how big the closure is. Having a respectful dialog with the FS and taking an approach informed by the behavioral ecology of the birds has helped build trust in this annual process. Please help us maintain this by not climbing in closed areas.

Please let us know if you have any questions.

You can always report an issue to CRAGS or Lover's Leap Guides via email or use the form on the CRAGS website.

CRAGS will be sending out some email and social media re: Falcon Closures, other news and upcoming events.

Please note that the Lover's Leap Campground is CLOSED and will remain so until at least late April. We have confirmed that a host will be in place by the end of the month and we'll update as we receive more information about opening dates. Campground bathrooms ARE open and are being maintained by Lover's Leap Guides, Strawberry Station and CRAGS. We're funding this with our time and resources so please help us keep the bathrooms and campground clean. The campground dumpster is open for trash. Please be bear aware. Please park respectfully on Strawberry Lane and remember NO PARKING at all on the road to the campground (Strawberry Ct).

Don't forget to stop in the store for a morning coffee, apres drink or snack or climbing gear.

Thanks and enjoy the unbelievably early climbing season!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
