Rescue on Mount Stuart - North Ridge
If you had an epic on the North Ridge of Mount Stuart recently, email me. I've likely got some of your stuff. |
That would be myself and my partner. Orange arc teryx axios and a blue BD pack anchored to the ridge several pitches before the slab with crack? We got picked of by whidbey SAR on the 10th. |
I just dm'd you. What happened up there though? Really would love to read a trip report. |
Don't leave us hanging...like your stuff |
I saw his post on the Leavenworth climbing page. I don’t think he was specific but it seemed like some sort of cardiac arrest or stroke or something. I could be way off base though. |
I thought it was a heart attack or stroke or something, but as it turns out, fatigue induced massive panic attacks can feel like heart attacks. Never had one before so I thought I was a goner. |
Panic attack s are freakin' terrifying. I don't blame you for bailing, and you made the right call. Hope your stuff made it's way back to you! |
Mr. Johnson from above rescued a few items for us. Hopefully the trend continues for the remainder of what's left of the season. This story will be old news come next summer. Maybe we'll have to make another trip ourselves. And make it a three day'er, since apparently we're soft as fuck |

Tyrell Paquette wrote: A good friend of mine did the complete N Ridge a few weeks back. He is used to big days and type 2 fun and said it was still a massive undertaking that he might have under estimated. You have every right be stoked you did what you needed to take care of your team. Stoked to hear the community is able to support a bit and yet you some gear back. Hats off to CCV SAR too? |

Andy Shoemaker wrote: Not sure who CCV SAR is, but it was Whidbey Island SAR who did the night op. |

Tyrell Paquette wrote: My mistake. CCV is Chelan County Volunteer SAR. Sounds like you got to ride in a militaty airship maybe. Either way. Helmets off to the folks who look after us when things go sideways. Glad they were there to support! |

Andy Shoemaker wrote: It was a Blackhawk! and even though it was shitty what happened, the helicopter rescue was one of the coolest moments in my life, those fellas are cowboys. |

man, glad it all worked out for you. i can see this happening. i remember when i did it i was running low on water, the air was really smoky, and my partner was setting a pretty relentless pace. when we got to a small patch of snow i had this kind of shocking realization that we were maybe a third of the way up and i was going to have to get my shit together to avoid going into the hurt locker. i remember telling my partner "i think i would probably write a check for 20 grand to get plucked off this fucking thing." she started laughing and totally thought i was joking. i was probably 49% joking and 51% serious... |
Stuart is no joke. Big undertaking any time of the year. |

Terry E wrote: This looks like a pretty high level rescue operation, incredible work by the helicopter team there. 20+ years ago I was camped near lake ingalls and watch a rescue for a party on west ridge with broken leg, the rescue took 1.5 days and involved multiple teams and helicopters, as a young lad then it was awesome to watch.. glad they were able to pick you off in the night. |
