DMM Dragon Cams - Sticky Action

I've had a set of DMM Dragon 2 cams for around a year. When I first got them I had to exchange my green for a new one because the lobe action was "sticky". When I would retract the lobes, they would stick a bit, then release then stick some more, and it would result in a segmented or jerky retraction and release. Store employee agreed it wasn't correct and made the exchange.

A year later and the issue has presented itself in the red and purple dragon cams too. My decade old C4s don't have this issue. I have even cleaned and lubed up these cams and the issue persists. I don't think it affects performance of the cams, but it doesn't feel great. It's also more noticeable when I go through the cam action slowly.

Has anyone else experienced his?

Looks like the lobes on the red DMM are slightly askew. This shouldn't cause those problems but it may add to the stickiness.

What did you use to clean and lube the cam? WD40 is not a good product for cams. Did you use compressed air?

I don't own any DMM cams but I wouldn't be surprised if the tolerances were tighter than BD's.

It looks like the trigger wires are catching the edges of the lobes. There's even tiny notches on the wires from this. Simply bend each wire away the lobe. NOT a real defect worthy of return.

I'm quite annoyed that tik tok has done away with years of training people to take videos in landscape so that it fits a monitor / tv.

Cam looks fine. Video needs rotating.

I gave the whole cam head a brush and used lubricating oil for hair clippers :/   The label says 100% mineral oil.

Just took a look at their maintenance instructions. Going through those steps. Hopefully after following their instructions my cams action will be better. Need to pick up proper cam lube though

I don't think that is happening. better video here:   youtube.com/watch?v=Y9N77A4…;ab_channel=MarkM

After a cleaning in warm water with some mild detergent the purple functions better. the red is still sticky. I took the trigger wires off the trigger to exercise the lobes independently and fou nd the issue is only with one of the lobes. I have yet to apply cam lube to the cam, so I am hoping that will solve the issue.

Another video here. The first time the lobe sticks it was my finger holding the trigger wire preventing the lobe from releasing.

EDIT: Metolius cam lube made a world of a difference. Cam functions better than it did when it was brand new

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
