Hey-

Considering climbing in Tuolumne this weekend. I know the pass just opened, but don't know much about the climbing and approach conditions. Anyone climb out there recently? Thinking about Lamb dome, fairview dome- but open to whatever is accessible and dry.

thanks!

Thanks Brennan! Curious if the walk-off fairview would be difficult due to snow? Also- I'm assuming something like Mathes Crest would be a slog to/from? Anyone know what it is like back there? Any pics? Also- should I prepare to be mauled by mosquitos?

thanks again!

Tuolumne is drier than you'd think. No snow at Fairview or Lamb. Haven't been out to Matthes but Cathedral is also totally dry.

A minor clarification to a comment above. The walk off on fairview dome is totally snow free, but there is a snow field at the base. We cut steps with a stick to carefully access Lucky Streaks and missed out on some portion of the first pitch due to the snow.

In general, there is less snow that I would have expected given the high levels elsewhere in the Sierra.

Speaking of high snow levels elsewhere in the Sierra, how do you think the Hulk is looking in the next couple weeks?

For the Hulk, There are some snowfields on the approach to the camping area. Most are low angle - but I appreciated crampons on the steepest one and on the way down due to firm snow conditions.

That said the approach to the base isn’t that bad & there is good water flowing by the usual campsites.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
