Tonsai Bay Thailand

I'm sure this basic info is somewhere buried in these forums, but i have a couple easy questions if you guys could help?

The Wife and i want to climb and BASE jump at Tonsai Bay. Here's the question I can't seem to get any of my BASE friends to answer. You fly into Krabi from the US and then it's a taxi or bus to a boat to get there right?

Is there more to it? We've been all over the World many times, but these tickets are spendy af and i just want the basic plane flight info to be spot on. Thanks y'all so much for anything helpful.

Fly to Krabi, taxi to Ao Nang.  Pick up a boat there to Tonsai from the beach.  It is a pretty easy place to travel.   Also, Chong Pli (I think also called spirit mountain - on MP) is maybe better climbing, just not on the water.  There are accommodations there as well.  Can't help you with BASE, never done it.

edit- the climbing and BASE thing we have dialed, it's just the airport and, are there good hotels nearby? thing we were trying to dial in. Thanks again brother.

If you book with a resort at tonsai, see if they offer transfers. There's a significant charge ~$40 one way but at least you're guaranteed to get where you need to go.

Thank you for the tip dude and I'm sorry to not know, but what's a "transfer" mean? The resort  picks you up at the Airport, is it a private shuttle? We've never been to Thailand before.

I guess transfer is a catch all term covering movement from 1 location (airport) to another (resort). We were planning to go to railay Beach last week but had to cancel because of a family emergency. I felt it was prudent to spend a little more because we've never been to Thailand before and were afraid of getting lost/scammed

Hank, read yourkrabi.com info on travel to Railay, it should be the latest.  I have always traveled via long tail from the East side pier. It has been fine save for the one stormy weather day…and that was just inconvenient since we knew we’d be warm and dry eventually.  Contact your hotel directly is my only other advice if you haven’t already done so;  they will want your experience to be good.  Buy a guide to support the local climbing community.  

Take a bus to Ao Nang from Krabi, and long tail boat to Tonsai for 100 Baht, it's easy. But I really recommend you to climb in the North Wall, Mythical Beast and Spirits Mountain in Ao Nang, for me is much better climbing there, less polish, good grades. Enjoy

There's one route and one BASE jump we gotta do in Tonsai, then we're gonna do exactly what you just advised afterwards.

Wow, I saw a few doing the BASE jump in Tonsai, looks crazy, good for you. Good luck.

Hank, if you want any more specific beta for Tonsai /Ao Nang, feel free to shoot me a message. My partner and I spent over a month in that area December to February, so everything we figured out should still be relevant.
