Climbing near Anchorage Alaska

Some friends and I are going to be in Anchorage from June 13th-June 21st. Looking for some good recommendations for stuff to try while we are there. Ideally we would climb a few days and would like to break it up between multipitch/sport and bouldering. We have a pretty big range of climbers, so were not looking for anything super hard. Just classic, interesting, and fun climbs.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

P.S: If you know anyone who will rent crashpads lemme know, would love to avoid lugging my up to Alaska.

Oh baby, Hatcher pass for bouldering and trad climbing. I would recommend Toto and physical attraction.

The climbing along Seward Highway is a chossy mess.  There were a few decent climbs. Sunshine Ridge is a classic easy one. There are a few bolted climbs you can access from the top after climbing Sunshine Ridge if you walk to right after topping out. I top roped these after rappelling in. They were in the 5.10 range. Forget their names, but a good way to get more climbing in after Sunshine Ridge.

Twinkle Toes stood out as having good rock quality and interesting climbing.

Watch out for the choss. The Anchorage area is not known for high rock quality. The Alaska Rock gym is also a great time.

No way hatcher pass will be ready for most climbing for at least 3 weeks to a month (at the earliest). There was fresh snow up there yesterday. Go get worked at Mile 88 (Weiner Lake) one day.

Ughhh I didn't think about the current conditions. I climbed one day at Weiner Lake. The climbing was hard. I remember it being slopers and overhung somehow. Chossy rock too...

Check out the Eagle River crags. Better than the Highway by far.

Friends of friends have climbed at Hatcher this year but you'd need floatation and motivation...

If you do climb on the highway, I'd recommend Sunshine Ridge and Goat Head Soup, perhaps Crack in the Woods. Dew Mound in Eagle River is a nice venue...great views, pretty decent climbing.

I'll be in Anchorage from Oct 31-Nov 4 and would like to check out the Alaska Rock Gym in the evenings, after 5 pm. If anyone would like a belay buddy during that time, let me know! I can TR or lead belay, though I haven't been to this gym before so I might have to get tested.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
