About seeing Trump signs in North Conway: “Sometimes I don’t even have the emotional energy to drive up there and subject myself to those signs.”

WOWWWWW. Imagine being so soft that you can’t even look at a sign that you disagree with. I’m no supporter of trump and never will be, but at least I can think about it without crying.

Something tells me you don’t have a law degree.

(But just to be safe, in case you’re right, I’m only climbing in a plain white T-shirt from now on)

If you're OK with displaying a Trump 2020 banner, too, then at least you're being consistent with your principles.

Personally, I think none of that should be at the crag.

I don't get it. Trump is a politician. This is about human rights. Is there something I'm missing, or are you just being you again?

Y'all are so scared of people who don't look exactly like you. Imagine how boring and entitled your lives must be.

BLM is a political movement. This is from their website:

"In 2013, three radical Black organizers — Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors, and Opal Tometi — created a Black-centered political will and movement building project called #BlackLivesMatter...."

"Black Lives Matter is an ideological and political intervention..."

So, yes, you are missing something. And, it's just me being me. You know, presenting the facts.

What you’re missing is that there’s people who think differently than you do and those people should have the same ability to voice their opinions, no matter how silly they may seem to you.

Is anybody disagreeing with that?

They don't seem silly to me. I respect everyone's opinion, because opinions don't exist merely in our minds. They get played out in policy and behavior. But equating the idea that black people matter to "let's elect a politician" is just contrarian, at best. Look at Frank, interjecting his thoughts into nearly every thread on this site, not matter whether his comments are relevant, helpful, or desired. Once again, something he rarely cares about day to day (human rights, equality), he feels the need to oppose SOLELY for the fact that other people care about it. So yeah, he can think differently, but I am also allowed to call it out for what it is. Reactionary fear.

You say that you respect everyone's opinion, then go on to disprove yourself by disparaging my comments. Good job.

"He posts out of fear!"

"Solely to be a contrarian!"

"His comments aren't relevant, helpful or desired!" (should I submit them to you for approval, in advance?) Of course my posts aren't desired by you; they're a different opinion. Ha ha.

Keep up the good work. I am at my post limit for the day, so enjoy yourself.

I am not a communist or a right leaning Christian but I will climb with either, I have in fact broken bread with a republican, a democrat, an anarchist and a neo-nazi. We shouldn't have to genuflect to power just to be. Life is fun alone or in a group, alone we answer to ourselves, in a group power or consensus rules. The former ensures someone somewhere suffers, the latter is at least an attempt to serve all of us.

Have a nice day.

I’d hang this quote on a giant flag.

Imagine if you weren't so binary that you could separate an idea from an organization. Black lives matter as an idea is just the idea that we could make society a bit more just. It's not like you have to have a membership card and a special handshake. I know its hard for a golden bootstrap boy scout who's never once admitted that there are structural issues related to race.

Why is this thread still on "General Climbing?" It seems to have descended into shitty politics quite some time ago.

If there were a special crag for posting banners, the banners should go there. Same with forums, no?

Hobo.... good answer.
A few months ago some climbers hung a “defund the police” banner up on the main wall at Stoney.
My friends and I were planning to hang a big ass Trump banner up there when the election day gets closer.
After seeing the “defund” banner hanging for a few hours- it was removed quickly, I talked with my friends.
My friends and I have decided not to hang anything on the wall.
Working through “neutral” ambassadors, a deal has been worked out, and no banners will be displayed at Stoney. (By US)
We have all figured that the beautiful rock, and climbing it, is much more important than some political statement.
The statement, after all, will be forgotten in a few years.
The Stone will remember forever.

So I will end with this wise saying from the Great Bobby Kamps. - “Don’t ruin a good friendship by discussing politics or religion”

Something we should all aspire to.

You keep repeating this as if it's some ancient koan, when in reality its complete horseshit.

When it comes to basic human rights and decency towards a marginalized class, those who would oppose or who won't even recognize that should be called out on their bullshit. This isn't arguing over tax rates or just ignoring someone's belief in a magic man in the sky.
