Hi all! Me and my friend were planning on going to Red River Gorge first week of June. Anyone know the current status/situation with climbers there & the regulations with the Coronavirus stuff? Also if it would be back up & running by that first week of June. Not trying to sound like I am impatient, just looking for some info. Thanks!

I wouldn’t make any plans.
Right now: stay the fuck home
Near future: stay the fuck home
Early June I’m sure it will still be: stay the fuck home

You’re looking in the wrong spot for encouragement to head out right now.

Current status is- absolutely not
Status by June- obviously nobody knows????

A month go corona was still a joke to a lot of people in the US(me included), and look where we are now. Nobody has a clue how it will look in June, but I wouldn’t be super optimistic (coming from someone with a trip scheduled in July).

As it is, the PMRP BRRP parking lots are closed as well as many of the NF lots so I wouldn't plan on them opening up anytime soon. I wouldn't even plan a climbing trip until like late july

No one can know what it will look like in 2 months.

But given how it's currently being managed, I wouldn't get my hopes too high about anything. If you want to make plans, I would suggest planning on next fall. You have more chances of that happening then. But maybe not even, if things get bad enough.

Currently most of the RRG is closed to climbing. We don't know when it will reopen.
No need to be a jerk to the OP, they're clearly just psyched and looking for some answers.

I don't think anyone's been a jerk. This has been a pretty civil response so far....

Also saw a post in the FB group that people have been parking on the oil roads to access climbing so let's hope those people don't mess it up for us once everything settles down.

Wow.  I can't think of a faster way to lose access to climbing there than to block those roads.  That's some seriously high levels of selfishness

Indeed. Personally I don’t really care about individuals climbing or not during this, that’s their prerogative, but endangering access for a wholeee bunch of other people is where I have a problem. Hopefully people can get their shit together.

I can't believe someone would ask if  ________  will be open by  ____________.     Seems pretty obvious that no one knows anything about the future.  The whole fabric of our society is hanging in the balance, but a quick little internet thread's gonna tell ya, yup.

The Red has a long history of people ignoring rules and then having areas close.

Torrent Falls used to be open to the public, but people kept bringing dogs (after the owner asked people not to) and peeing in view of his guests.  Now it's closed to the general public.  GFNP (aka Roadside) was open until someone decided to violate the permit requirement and post a video online.  Now it's closed too.

I guess people are now parking on oil company roads... we are our own worst enemy

Can anyone share any reopening news? I've heard several different stories from different sources. This Friday, June 3, June 11th. The FS website has June 3rd or the 11th for everything that's closed now, but I heard a rumor that things were opening this weekend too. I'm guessing this is a rumor, but if you know more...

Ma Ja, the forest service is opening back up on the 22nd. There has been no indication of the RRGCC land opening back up as of yet, but the north gorge looks good to go.

Edit to add: Muir Valley is still closed.

Thanks. I'd imagine that the coalition will follow suit very quickly.
