Somewear vs. Garmin inReach Mini 2-way satellite communicators

For some time now I've been considering dropping the $350 to get a Garmin inReach. I'm a starving college student so the upfont investment plus the subscription was a lot to swallow.
Then, today I saw an ad for a new device from a company I had not heard of. It's called Somewhere. The features look pretty comparable to the inReach mini (unless I am missing something obvious)
Their cheapest plan is only $100/year which is a bit less than the inReach and their current sale makes it 75 bucks cheaper than the inReach.

Does anyone have any advice or experience using this Somewhere device before I go spend a paycheck and a half?

Thanks,
-Grant

Garmin is currently having $75 off sale plus a free month when you activate. So it's about the same price.

In answer to the larger question: I have an Inreach Mini and really like it. Great for peace of mind.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
