I'm in the beginning stages of planning a trip to NZ for some touring and sport climbing in Dec/Jan/Feb.  Would anyone have any recommendations for sport areas areas (5.10-5.12) and guidebooks?
Thanks for any help.

Check out Payne's Ford and Hangdog camp on the South Island. Awesome sport climbing, really great climber camp and community. There's also an area called Pohara to the NE that is fun as well. Have fun!

The north end of the south island is the spot. Paynes Ford outside of Takaka, and down the west coast a to paparoa is awesome. There's climbing all over both islands though. Check out thecrag.com lots of info there. There's froggatts edge by rotorua, and castle point(?) up on the coromandel penninsula. Wanaka and Queenstown both have good crags, We climbed on the beach down by duniden, as well as granite climbing around the milford sound, not to mention the world class bouldering of castle hill.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
